Thing A Day

For Christmas I was given a book that contained open instructions for 365 art projects: one for each day of the year. The purpose of this tumblr is to document my progress throughout the project.
Day Forty-Eight: Buy or make some clay and then use it like you never have before.

Having rarely worked with clay before this meant I could basically do whatever I wanted with clay. So I made a bear. We just moved and we’ve named our house “The Embassy”, as in “The California Embassy”, so I made a bear that could be our mascot.

Day Forty-Seven: Turn today’s junk mail into something much more appealing.

I took a credit card solicitation addressed to Eliot and made a ransom note for my body from the world regarding sleep using Beatles lyrics.

Day Forty-Six: Use only white materials today.

I made a small snowperson

Day Forty-Five: Work with two materials that generally don’t go together.

Futurama has had a pretty prominent presence in my house lately, so I nicked a mango from the kitchen and drew suspicious Fry on it.

Day Forty-Four: What can you do with yarn?
Today I had it confirmed that someone who means a lot to me has stage 3 lung cancer. So I used yarn to outline a set of lungs on my hardwood floor.

Day Forty-Three: Make something only using dots.

Ah, stippling. I don’t think I’ve utilized this artistic technique since I was 16 years old. My friend Tori is one of the most inspiring people I know, and her entire being just reminds me of summer. So I just stippled her latest profile picture, which appears to be of her doing a handstand on a lakefront in New Zealand.

Day Forty-Two: Use a disposable plastic bag to create something new today.

I made a cape for my rabbit, O’Hare. Observe as he soars over the Grand Canyon.

Day 41:

Write an advertising jingle for something in nature.

Oh dear unexpected snowfall

What did I ever do to you?

I got hit by a rogue snowball

And now with melting snow my shirt soaks through!

Hey Gang

sorry about the lack of posts. Between moving on Friday and Saturday, starting my new job Sunday, and not getting internet until today I’ve definitely fallen behind. I would expect an actual project post on Thursday, if I were you. :)

Day Forty: Incorporate yourself into what you make. It could be by wearing the work, by creating a self portrait, etc…

I actually made this necklace a few days ago, but I wear it all the time, and it’s like taking my old home around with me wherever I go in my new one.
